of identity, search, monitoring, and control for Delphix in a way where your data never leaves your secured environments, whether it’s in an on-premises data center or the cloud.

This article was originally published on the Delphix website here February 14, 2020.

Over the last several years, we have observed two major trends for enterprise data: an explosion in the volume and an increase in locations where that data may reside. Many Delphix customers, for instance, have deployed our engines in multiple on-premises data centers as well as AWS or Azure cloud environments in various geographic regions.

Delphix Virtualization and Masking ship as virtual appliances (installed in the hypervisor or cloud of your choice) and operate close to where data are coming from or where they’re being used. As an example, a customer could deploy a Delphix engine in a virtual private cloud for testing that occurs there to support high speed, low latency data on-demand.

This leads to a large number of Delphix engines being deployed, sometimes up to hundreds for some of our largest enterprise customers. While each of these engines can be controlled on their own (via the UI, CLI or API), companies have expressed their desire to build an automation policy at a group- or enterprise-level rather than on each engine. Depending on the operational structure, the effort of managing each engine independently can be onerous. To solve this problem and give our customers enterprise-wide management over their data, we introduced Central Management, a single, unified way to interact with Delphix. Central Management was designed to provide a single point of:

  • Identity (Authentication & Authorization): Unified user management, API key management, authentication and authorization across an entire Delphix deployment, using best of industry practices, such as single sign-on.
  • Search: The ability to search for data sets (dSources and VDBs), jobs and other objects based on a variety of different metadata, regardless of where those objects are.
  • Monitoring: The ability to monitor real-time usage, trends, and in-progress operations across a Delphix deployment regardless of where those operations are being executed.
  • Control: The ability to control data sets (refresh, rewind, mask) and policy through one central user interface and API.

Users can access Central Management as a SaaS offering, in addition to the Delphix engines that are already deployed across the enterprise. Central Management delivers the single point of identity, search, monitoring, and control for Delphix in a way where your data never leaves your secured environments, whether it’s in an on-premises data center or AWS, for example.

With Central Management, all of your engines connect outbound to the Delphix service. Users can monitor and analyze the deployment while actual engines and more importantly, data stay safely in your network and control.

In several upcoming blogs, we will be exploring many of these topics in more detail and explain how you can take advantage of this new exciting capability. If you are interested in getting started with Central Management now, please contact your Customer Success representative or Delphix Support.
