Hi everyone,

We are having an issue with virtual databases that is related to Oracle Database Vault.

When we provision a virtual database to a Target environment (which has Oracle v12.1 installed) the operation ends with an error in the Delphix with the following error.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

command: umask 027; . $DB_SCRIPT_DIR/setup-oraenv.sh; $DLPX_SHELL $DB_SCRIPT_DIR/doOpenDatabase.sh "$LOGON_STR"
output:END_OF_SETUP
WARNING: cannot read alert log file /export/home/oracle/app/oracle/diag/rdbms/mxuatx/MXUATX/alert/alert_MXUATX.log
db_status=' || status from v$instance
ALERT_LOG_FILE_PATH=/export/home/oracle/app/oracle/diag/rdbms/mxuatx/MXUATX/alert/alert_MXUATX.log
PRE_OPEN_LINE_COUNT=

Database altered.
OPEN_DATABASE_ERROR

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

When we check the error in detail with Delphix Support we have found out that it is actually related to Oracle Database Vault:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

ERROR:
ORA-47306: 20007: DB Vault Connect Rule -- DB Connection Not Allowed

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

When we tried to disable the Oracle Database Vault using Oracle documentation (Disabling and Enabling Oracle Database Vault) we have still experiencing problems that are related to the Database Vault and the vDB cannot be provisioned successfully.

Oracle remove preview
Disabling and Enabling Oracle Database Vault
Go to main content Periodically you must disable and then re-enable Oracle Database Vault, for activities such as installing Oracle Database optional products or features. Topics: Note: When Oracle Database Vault is disabled, there are some Database Vault features that you can still use. Oracle does not support the deinstallation of Oracle Database Vault.
View this on Oracle >

We have also noticed that Oracle Passwordfile does not exist in the Oracle DB home.

Any suggestions are welcome!

Best regards,

Hi Rahim,

One idea is to check in the source if there is any ip restriction rule set, if so just update it accprdinally to your need.to get it into work.

Hi Mouhssine,

Thanks a lot for your valueable comments. As you have suggested we already set up a meeting with the Security Team (in this case we were informed by the customer that Security team sets the DB Vault config) and it is due to next week.

Hopefully I will share the results and how to resolve this issue here.

Hi everyone,

Let me share an update: After making Database Vault configuration updates at the Source and taking a SnapSync at Delphix, the next vDB from the latest snapshot were provisioned successfully.

Hi Rahim,

Glad to hear it and that the suggested idea made you overcome the situation after updating the DB firewall configuration
