We're looking to upgrade our Oracle servers to an Engineered System (e.g. Exadata, SPARC SuperCluster, or ODA) and would like to know if Delphix supports any/all of these platforms as both a Source and Target Host, or just as a Source Host? Are there any trade-offs?

Yes, Delphix supports all of the above mentioned platforms with no difficulty, we have many customers leveraging all of them successfully.

Would like to know the  network configuration on  exadata system which the  vdb can be mounted using nFS. what is the  prerequisites on the target system ( exadata) and which network interface is using to  mount the VDB's .

What re the requirements on target exadata machine to mount the VDB's on exadata dbnodes.

Depending on what model Exadata you are supporting, compute nodes are equipped with four to eight (4-8) 1/10GbE network ports.  One of these are reserved for management during setup/configuration, but the remainder can be used for client access and other uses such as network-attached storage and NFS.

If Exadata compute nodes are to be used as "targets" for virtual databases from Delphix, then the network configuration should be prepared as for any NFS-based network-attached storage, including the 10 GbE setting (instead of 1 GbE), as documented online here.   Additional options for improved performance of network-attached storage include the use of TCP "jumbo frames" as documented online here.

As far as whether Oracle Support has objections to the use of Exadata compute nodes hosting Delphix virtual databases, Oracle Support note #1541428.1 (entitled "Is it acceptable / supported to install additional or 3rd party software on Exadata machines and how to check for conflicts?") should be helpful in clearing that concern.

thanks for the reply,

We are using the x2-2 half rack and want to know which network interface we can use.

there are 5 interfaces with 1GB and 2  with 10GB..  
Out of 5 1Gb  2 interfaces are free , those are not allocated to any setup for  client/management or network storage etc.

and other 2 interfaces with 10G were assigned to Infiniband interfaces to connect storage servers.

Let me know in this case how to configure the  nfs , with  10G interfaces, it's already assigned to storage cells.

And also the jumbo frames configuration document was not opening, pls provide the  link to access the  document.

If you're saying that there are no 10GbE interfaces available for NFS, then as already stated virtual databases use the Delphix Engine appliance as a network-attached storage appliance for all datafiles, tempfiles, online/archived redo logfiles, spfiles, etc, so all of the guidelines for optimizing network-attached storage apply.

You can certainly use 1GbE interfaces for NFS, but expectations for performance of the dependent virtual databases should be adjusted accordingly.
