We are creating a new Engine and need to run hostchecker, how do we do that? Do we need any special privileges?

Johnston, we have a section of our documentation devoted to running the host checker.  It can be found at http://docs.delphix.com/display/DOCS40/Using+HostChecker+to+Confirm+Source+and+Target+Environment+Co...

In general, as the purpose of running the host checker is to verify that you have the correct privileges, you do not need any special privileges beyond what you need for Delphix in the first place.

Dave is correct, but I would also like to add something. Inside of the hostchecker directory, there is a script that you can use to create the os user that Delphix is going to use on the target and source systems. In order to execute that script, you would need to be a user with root level privileges. Also, you would need root level privileges to make any necessary ulimit and sudoer changes. Again, this is just for the initial setup. When you run the hostChk.pl youwill run that as the limited privilege os user (i.e. delphix) you configured either manually or by the script. HTH
