  • 1.  Upgrading Delphix Oracle VDB's to 19c (Pre-checks Hidden Parameter Related Query)

    Dear Community Members,

    I'm upgrading the Delphix Oracle VDB's to 19c (from 12c). When performing pre-checks it's requesting to remove hidden parameters.

    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
    SOURCE PARAMETERS - Hidden parameters set - Remove anything not required - Autoupgrade may remove them, check after the upgrade that they are there!

    INST_ID NAME VALUE
    ---------- ---------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------
    1 _omf ENABLED
    >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    Query - Is it okay to remove the _omf and proceed with 19c Upgrade?
                  What relevance does "_omf" has in Delphix VDB, I do understand it used OMF nomenclature during provisioning from dSource.

    Please share your inputs. Many Thanks !!

    Hi Sharad,

    Using Oracle Managed Files simplifies the administration of an Oracle Database. Oracle Managed Files eliminate the need for you, the DBA, to directly manage the operating system files that comprise an Oracle Database. With Oracle Managed Files, you specify file system directories in which the database automatically creates, names, and manages files at the database object level. For example, you need only specify that you want to create a tablespace; you do not need to specify the name and path of the tablespace's data file with the DATAFILE clause. It relies on 3 different parameter based on type of operation.
    1) DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST
    2) DB_CREATE_ONLINE_LOG_DEST_n
    3) DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST

    When upgrading VDB from 12c to 19c, if required you can remove "_omf" parameter and later set it back when required. This should not impact delphix operation. You may even try to proceed with Autoupgrade with "_omf" parameter. Even if this parameter is not set, delphix will be able to provision/refresh/rewind VDBs

    Hi Ajay,

    Thanks for reverting back, from the suggested options, we will remove the hidden parameter "_omf" (option 2) and perform a 19c upgrade. As we are in PoC using a Dummy VDB (gpstest) spinner from dSource, we can add it back later if needed.

    ==========
    1. When upgrading VDB from 12c to 19c, if required you can remove the "_omf" parameter and later set it back when required. This should not impact Delphix's operation.

    2. You may even try to proceed with the Auto upgrade with the "_omf" parameter. Even if this parameter is not set, Delphix will be able to provision/refresh/rewind VDBs -
    ==========

    Many Thanks!
