Create dSource, then remove SOURCE, after that Provision VDB as replacement of SOURCE

    Hi Everyone,

We have controversial idea with customer, Create dSource from NONPROD Source DB, remove Source DB, then Provision VDB, as replacement of Source. All Oracle DB's.

Of course we agree that we loose SnapSync process, and refresh only to starting point of dSource - is there any other pitfalls of this idea ?

Hi Marcin, You can't do it that way, as there is a sort of parent-chiled relation between the dsource and vdbs created based on it. If you try to drop the dsource the engine will notify you that you have to delete all vdbs based on it before you can achive the need. Just for my information what is the real need and what you looking for doing things this way. Regards, Mouhssine

    Hi Marcin,

It's an unusual idea, but you could certainly do that, there are a few things to keep in mind:
    • Unlink the dSource before you remove the original source DB to avoid faults. This will stop the Delphix Engine from trying to contact the source for status, logs, etc.
    • The provisioned VDB will still need to have a different name than the source.
    • Ensure good network latency between the Delphix Engine and the source server, in the same way as any target server, to make sure performance does not suffer in comparison.
    Hope that helps,

    Scott.
