    Hi Guys,

We are provision the dsource,so while provisioning the dsource we check the delphix managed backup option as enabled so we can able to provision it.While when we unchecked the option we are unable to provision it.

Please someone can help us on this.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Swathy,

I'm not really understanding your question. Once a dSource has been linked with the "Delphix Managed Backup" (https://docs.delphix.com/docs/delphix-administration/sql-server-environments-and-data-sources/managing-sql-server-environments/additional-sql-server-environment-topics/delphix-as-a-backup-solution-to-sql-server ), there is no way to turn it off. You must delete the dSource and relink it to turn this option off. For a dSource that has been created this way, you can toggle the "Enable/Disable" switch to disabled so that it stops taking backups.

Once it has been disabled, you can still provision VDBs from any of the existing snapshots.

It might help if you provide some screen shots illustrating your problem.

    Thanks,

    Hi Neal,

Thanks for your response.I have created Mssql dsource i provision the dsource without the managed backup option so i am unable to create the VDB.

So i want  to know what could be the reason for this.

    Thanks

Hi Neal, In case of a newly added MSSQL dSource where there is no existing snapshot, if we don't enable "Delphix Managed Backup", can we still provision DB? Do we need to take backups by ourself to provision a VDB ? Thanks Anshul

    Hello,

Linking a dSource gets broken down into two jobs:
    1. Linking - Connecting to the source database and creating an object in Delphix that displays in the GUI.
    2. SnapSync - Once Delphix has successfully connected to a source database, it needs to ingest a backup and create a snapshot. Without a snapshot, you cannot provision a VDB.
To create a snapshot, Delphix can either:
    1. Ingest an existing backup if it is from a supported backup vendor (Microsoft, LiteSpeed or Red Gate)
    2. Create a copy-only backup and ingest it
Normally people only use "Delphix Managed Backups" when there is an unsupported backup vendor.

More information on this can be found in our documentation:

    https://docs.delphix.com/docs-old/delphix-administration/sql-server-environments-and-data-sources/virtualizing-databases-using-delphix-with-sql-server/managing-sql-server-dsources/linking-a-dsource-from-a-sql-server-an-overview

    Thanks,
      Neal
