Hello,

We had a user attempt to create a bookmark in JetStream with 66 characters in it yesterday, when they attempted this they got an error saying that the bookmark creation failed and that they should try again with no details about why it failed.

After 3 failed attempted they tried shortening the name and it completed successfully. 

Is there a character limit on the name of JetStream bookmarks?  If yes, what is it?

Jim,

I think there's a limit of around 256. I just created a bookmark with 210 characters and had no problems. Do you have more details about the error message? 

Here is the text from the email alert we receive, it doesn't provide much detail, when they shortened the bookmark name from 66 characters to 59, it worked:

Description

JETSTREAM_USER_CONTAINER_CREATE_BOOKMARK job for "MARKITEDM_MASTERMIND_DX" failed due to an error during execution: Failed to create bookmark "MM: Sprint 12 _ LF & MM Code till Sprint 10 _ With_ Quality_Rating".

Action

Try creating the bookmark again. If this operation continues to fail contact your Delphix administrator.

Also, here is the error they receive in Jetstream.

That's really odd. I just created a bookmark with the exact same name here, and didn't encounter any problems.  Let me ask around and get back to you.

What version of the product are you using?

We are using version 4.2.4.0.

Bingo.  One of my colleagues very recently fixed a bug that was limiting the name length to 64 bytes (so, 64 characters unless you are using 中文 or something like that).

It sounds like that is expanded in a future version though?

Yes.  Should be fine in the next version (when I said it worked, above, I was using the version-in-development)
