When setting up our Delphix Engine, we set up our storage,Dell Compellent, to do thick provisioning according to what Delphix suggested. However, Dell Compellent storage was thin provisioned while VMware was thick provisioned.

What are the potential problem we may run into if we change our VMWare to be thin provisioned? Other than some performance impact, are there any other reasons why we should not thin provision VMware?

Raj, as long as your VMDK's are thick provisioned, eager zeroed, the underlying LUN's can be thin provisioned. If you are using RDM's, then the physical LUN's should be thick provisioned.

Now, as far as what potential problems.... I don't think you are looking at "some" performance impact, but rather a performance impact that can render the system unusable. Definitely do not go against the best practices in this regard.
