  • 1.  Connections during maintenance window

    Posted 12 days ago

Delphix tries to connect to our SQL DB servers during our scheduled weekly maintenance and as a result unnecessary errors are generated.
Is there a way to suppress errors during the maintenance window?
    TY, Joe

    Description

Failed to connect to host "xxx.com" for environment "xxx.com". Delphix may be unable to detect the correct state of the datasets on this host due to error : An error occurred while connecting to the Delphix Connector on remote host "xxx.com" using port "xxx" for environment "xxx.com". Command output: Connection refused (Connection refused)

    Action

Make sure that the host is up and the Delphix Connector service is running.

    Hi Joseph,

    Short answer is no.

Longer answer is that it's part of the design that Delphix will throw an error if a dataset is not accessible.

What you can do is to disable the dSource and VDBs before the maintenance window. You can do this via GUI or API or dxtoolkit.

Thanks for the quik reply Rahim.

I'll have to think about that. We may just live with the errors and setup an Outlook rule to send those mails to a folder.

    Thanks again, Joe

    Hi Joseph,

This reminded me of something: I have a customer (they have a lot of MS SQL environments) and they have noticed that Delphix is acting (like throwing an error) faster than their own internal alarm system when it comes to detection of a Windows server going down or not responding. We have even thought about using Delphix as part of their internal detection.

    Hi Joe,

Have you checked your configuration for the VDBs if this feature flag is enabled? (see link below)

If Delphix detects a host has been rebooted which is typical during maintenance windows it will try to restart the datasets.

Automatic VDB restart on target server after reboot

    Hi Rob,
We do have that feature enabled and it works as expected. The VDBs automatically start when the server becomes available post maintenance.

    Thanks for the suggestion!
