    Hi Subhash,

In response to your query "Could you any one help me to understand the Difference between Refresh and Snapshot of a VDB in delphix"

    1. A vDB refresh in refreshing the data of the vDB to a point in time of it's parent and further information can be found here:

    https://cd.delphix.com/docs/latest/vdb-operations  under Refresh a VDB

    2. A vDB snapshot is a copy of the data of the vDB at that moment in time which can be used to rewind too or provision a child vDB from.

I hope this answers your query.

    Darren

    Hello,

A VDB snapshot is not really taking a copy of the data. I would describe it more as taking a picture of the data at that moment in time. Delphix uses the "zfs snapshot" command ( https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E18752_01/html/819-5461/gbciq.html ) to take a snapshot of the file system.

When someone says copying the data, to me that implies doing something like "cp ..." which would consume extra disk space to store another copy of the data. A Delphix/ZFS snapshot is different:

A snapshot is a read-only copy of a file system or volume. Snapshots can be created almost instantly, and they initially consume no additional disk space within the pool. However, as data within the active dataset changes, the snapshot consumes disk space by continuing to reference the old data, thus preventing the disk space from being freed.

    Thanks,

    Neal
