I m looking to create an empty VDB for which have created an empty dSource first, but provisioning a VDB from empty dSource is getting failed.

Unfortunately, provision may fail for a number of reasons, so it's difficult to speak to this without further detail. Have you had a chance to review the Product Documentation? It details the process for provisioning an empty VDB:

As well as the process for creating a new vFiles dSource:

Offhand, the only immediate "gotcha" I can think of in vFiles vs. other datasets such as Oracle, is that the mount path provided has to be an absolute path to where the mounts will occur.  In contrast to Oracle, which uses a mount base and discrete subdirectories are created within it.

If you're encountering a specific failure condition, sharing those details here may allow the Community to assist further. Otherwise, you can also open a new Support case at any time with those details as well, if there's any timing of concern in accomplishing this task.

I checked the documentation and creating a VDB for unstructured file is working , but my need is to create an empty VDB from an empty dSource.

it`s a SQL database and have created an empty dSource following below steps:

1. Manage--Environments- select teh stage environments --go to database tab-- go to SQL Server manual discovery-- click on + icon to add dsource (dSource  got added in an INACTIVE mode)
2. Provision a VDB on target server following the workflow (job getting failed)

Question: is it possible to create an empty VDB from an empty dSource?
