This update covers new offerings, features, and functionality changes delivered in October 2024.
Three Key Highlights
- Data Control Tower can now be installed as a VM appliance.
- Continuous Compliance now masks supported file types residing in Azure Blob Storage.
- We will shift to a bi-monthly release cadence starting in November 2024.
- DCT VM Appliance: As an alternative to the existing Kubernetes-based deployment model, DCT now offers a VM-based closed appliance model for net new deployments of DCT. This model closely resembles the traditional engine hosting model offering a simpler management experience for admin teams.
- VDB Groups: Introduced the full standard action drop down set to VDB Groups, including Start, Stop, Enable, Disable, Lock, and Unlock. Various smaller refinements and performance improvements based on user feedback.
- Date/Time Refresh: When selecting an unavailable point in time in the Refresh > Date/Time wizard, the two closest options are now presented.
- Password Updates and API Key Rotation: Users can re-generate API Key and update their DCT passwords. Administrators can set an expiration policy in the Admin > Authentication tab to improve security practices.
- Session Timeout: By default, after one hour of inactivity, users will be logged out of DCT. Administrator can set a preferred timeout policy in the Admin > Authentication tab.
- File Masking in Azure Blob Storage: Increasingly, organizations store sensitive application data in object storage buckets. To ensure these buckets can be masked alongside other application data, connecting directly to Azure and masking supported file types is now available.
- Brazilian Financial ID Algorithm: Users can now mask Brazilian CPF and CPNJ numbers out of the box with a new algorithm framework, eliminating the need for custom extensions.
- Improved Auto-Identity Column Job Reporting: Jobs that require the creation of identity columns now report status information on when they are performing that work, resulting in more detailed job monitoring.
Hyperscale Compliance
-
File Connector "Staging Push": Introduced feature that allows users to bypass the unload and load processing steps. This allows users to directly provide source files at a mount point mapped to the staging area. Instead of using writers to parse the source files during unload, a link to the files is created within the staging area and passed to the Continuous Compliance engine. During the load operation, the masked files will be available as links in the target location. Note, the staging push feature is restricted to delimited files.
Oracle Dataset Filtering: You can now filter the source data to be processed by a Hyperscale job by applying a "where clause" filter condition in a job's data set. The "where clause" condition is added in unload SQL queries when fetching the data from a source database.
Continuous Data
- Virtual-to-Physical (V2P) of Oracle Multi-tenant, Pluggable Databases: Currently, users can export Oracle database data via V2P for Oracle multitenant pluggable databases to ASM. With this feature, we are enabling the data export to physical filesystems as well.
- Oracle Virtual Pluggable Database (vPDB) Provisioning: Continuous Data Engines now support provisioning an Oracle vPDB from a snapshot of a non-multitenant source database to an existing virtual container database (vCDB). Previously, only physical container databases were supported as targets. It is important to note that the target virtual container database must already exist, and creating a new virtual target database during the conversion process is not supported. Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) is also not supported.
- Yugabyte: The Yugabyte Anywhere (YBA) offering can now integrate with Yugabyte VDBs to enhance operational efficiency, such as in using YBA's alerts, monitoring, or backups.
- Documentation: Broad improvements are introduced in the datasets documentation for Oracle and SQL Server data sources.

Release Cadence and Version Changes
Based on feedback from our customers, Delphix will return to a bi-monthly release schedule for Continuous Data, Continuous Compliance, and Data Control Tower starting in November 2024. Following that, the next release will be in January 2025 with subsequent releases every 2 months.
Starting in January, the version naming will follow a new format: YYYY.R.M.P (Year.Release.Minor.Patch). For example, the January release will be 2025.1.0.0, and March will be 2025.2.0.0. Hyperscale Compliance will continue with monthly releases but adopt the new naming scheme.
