    Hi,

Is it possible to create  a blank VDB with just metadata (Schemas, tables etc) but with no data?

    Thanks & Regards,
    Abhinav

    Hi Abhinav,

A VDB is an exact clone of the source database. When you initially provision a VDB, it shares all of its blocks with the source database and thereby uses very little (zero) storage. That is part of the magic of Delphix.

After the VDB has been provisioned, you could certainly truncate all of the tables in it using a "Configure Clone" hook and then you would have an empty VDB. Then you could provision other VDBs from this VDB:

Abhinav, Professional Services has developed this capability for Oracle in a plugin which leverages our virtualization SDK.  If you're interested, please reach out to your sales or partner team.

You can also simply "ingest" a blank database as your source.  Create a blank database and link it like any other dSource.  (In general, an empty database is not really empty right?  It contains the data dictionary or some header metadata.)  You can then provision copies of the empty database as VDBs.
