  • 1.  What's the difference between disabling a VDB and shutting it down?

    Hi
We are about to patch our database servers and we need to disable/shutdown the VDBs cleanly before we do this.

Normally we shutdown each VDB, but there is also disable....what are the main differences between shutting down and disabling?

    Thanks in advance

Essentially, disabling an object keeps that object from being started again (until enabled).

Thanks Adam, so if we are patching the underlying SQL server, should we disable or shutdown each VDB?  Shutdown displays the DB as offline whilst the disable removes the DB from the server?

Hi Adam, found it!  Shut down VDBs and disable staging sources!
