  • 1.  Stopping a DB for a dSource but keeping the dSource

    Posted 05-15-2021 06:35:00 PM
We are in the process of moving the Oracle DB we use for our dSource to a new environment and DB.  The old DB will be down, but we will need the dSource to remain for around 6 weeks.  Are there any special considerations for Delphix (disabling the environment, etc) that should be done to ensure the dSource remains or that we don't receive alerts that the DB is not reachable?

    Hi David,

After you shutdown the database you should disable the dSource in Delphix Engine to avoid connectivity failure alerts from Delphix Engine and dSource can be retained in Delphix Engine as per your requirement like 6 months or 1 year etc ...

    Thanks Madhusudhan,

Disabling the dSource won't impact child VDBs attached to the dSource?

    Hi David,

I believe the best action is to take a last SnapSync before shutting down your Oracle database and then Unlink your dSource from the database. The details are here: https://docs.delphix.com/docs/datasets/oracle-environments-and-data-sources/linking-data-sources-and-syncing-data-with-oracle/advanced-linking/detaching-and-re-attaching-oracle-dsources

Once unlinked, you can keep the dSource as long as you want (apply its own Retention Policy to this object) and since it's not taking Snapshots of Prod data, it will not grow except the Usage in Virtual databases.

The Virtual Databases also will not be affected as long as you keep the dSource. Delphix will not let you delete the dSource as long as the vDBs are alive, so in short it should be business as usual without any problems.
