  • 1.  ServiceNow discovery for Delphix

Does anyone use ServiceNow to discover Delphix objects? I know Delphix has "Delphix Spoke for ServiceNow" but I am looking for a way to let ServiceNow to discover Delphix deployments and the data sets automatically instead of using dxtools to feed ServiceNow.

    Hi Chris,

I used to support ServiceNow's Discovery. I have not heard of anyone developing a new discovery pattern to login to the Delphix Engine and execute its APIs to populate anything in ServiceNow's CMDB. Anything is possible though.

The Delphix Engine is a Linux VM and could certainly be discovered by existing ServiceNow patterns up to a point. We don't provide access to the UNIX prompt and so ServiceNow could not run all of its detailed commands it runs during discovery ( https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/vancouver-it-operations-management/page/product/discovery/reference/r_DataCollDiscoLinuxComputers.html ). I would expect ServiceNow could at least classify it as a Linux box when it runs its Shazzam probes ( https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/vancouver-it-operations-management/page/product/discovery/reference/r_DiscoveryPortsAndProtocols.html ).

As far as VDBs, they are simply databases with Delphix storage. Whether the VDBs are ASE, SQL Server, Oracle or otherwise, ServiceNow has patterns to discover database ( https://docs.servicenow.com/bundle/tokyo-it-operations-management/page/product/discovery/concept/c_OracleDatabaseDiscovery.html ). I guess if you wanted to further classify them as virtual or physical, you could probably extend the "Oracle DB on UNIX Pattern" to maybe run a query that looks for something that distinguishes the database as being virtual and then update something in the CMDB.

    Thanks,

    Neal
