  • 1.  Is it mandatory to stop VDBs before engine upgrade ?

    Hello All,

Kindly let me know is it mandatory to stop all VDBs from Delphix engine before upgrade to newer version ?

Currently we are stopping all VDBs manually via GUI before the upgrade and then applying the upgrade, just would like to know is it correct or not

    Hello Pankaj,

Thank you for reaching out to the community.

It is not mandatory to stop all VDBs when upgrading. Please see: https://cd.delphix.com/docs/latest/upgrading-the-delphix-engine-overview

The Delphix engine will automatically shut down the VDBs when doing an OS upgrade. If you do a 'Delay the Reboot' upgrade, then there is no impact to the running VDB's.

    Thanks

    Adam.

    Hello Pankaj,

It is not mandatory to bring down the VDBs prior to an upgrade as noted in the document Upgrading the delphix engine: overview

The Delphix Engine will automatically disable all VDBs and dSources during the upgrade process in order to safely reboot to the new version, and thus you should schedule downtime for your VDB applications.

This is for the Upgrade type "Apply now", where all application and OS updates are applied and the engine is rebooted.

For the Upgrade type "Delay the Reboot", with this method dSources will stop refreshing from production and access to VDB data will not be affected by this upgrade and can be used normally.

Please review the document for additional details.
